This past week we had an extra day off in honor of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I had the luxury of taking my own children to the DuSable Museum on Saturday, and this got me thinking on all the ways diversity informs our lives and should be celebrated. February is coming up fast, and February is also Black History Month. There are many ways we can celebrate diversity with our children, especially as they grow older and are able to think more deeply about their diverse world. Here are some suggestions:

In the New Year, I'd like to take a minute to thank all the parent's in our district for all the support you provide for your children. I am thankful for our parents who support their children during their education in our schools, and also in the topics that are important in your own home! I am thankful when I see a large group of parents at our school functions to encourage our students and athletes. I am thankful for the many parent volunteers who make our district better. In this new year, we are lucky to have our School Board, PTA, PAA, and Foundation. Our district is a better place because of all our parent organizations!
Many of our parents are alumni, and we are lucky to have had support across generations! Parents are our partners in learning and we are so thankful for all you do. We look forward to spending this second half of the year continuing to partner for learning. |
